Audience:

This program is intended for all child welfare professionals, including jurists, court staff, attorneys, CPS and foster care workers, tribes, and private agencies.

Program Description:

The training will cover Michigan’s efforts to reform Child Caring Institutions, focusing on: eliminating unnecessary placement of youth into residential treatment facilities, ensuring necessary placements are short-term, and providing the highest level of safety and quality of care during placement.

The Child Welfare Services (CWS) department is part of the Michigan State Court Administrative Office (SCAO). CWS provides assistance to circuit court family divisions on child welfare matters, including child protective proceedings, foster care, adoption, termination of parental rights, permanency outcomes, and data collection and analysis. CWS administers the Michigan Court Improvement Program (CIP), the Foster Care Review Board Program (FCRB), and the training program for the Governor’s Task Force on Child Abuse and Neglect. CWS provides numerous multi-disciplinary trainings each year on a variety of child welfare issues.
